توسعه بسیاری از قطعاتی که در صنعت الکترونیک به کار می روند، مدیون اتصال فلزات، نیمه هادی ها، عایق ها و ابررساناها به یک دیگر و همچنین ترکیب مناسبِ این نوع اتصالات هستند. آن چه در این جا بحث می شود مربوط به اتصالاتی است که هیچ گونه عیبی (حتی مرزدانه) در فصل مشترک آن ها وجود ندارد. لذا فارغ از عواملی که باعث پراکنده شدن ناقل های بار می شود، صرفاً بر اساس تفاوت تابع کارِ دو ماده تحت اتصال، به بررسی خواص الکتریکی پرداخته می شود. بعد از تعریف چند عبارت پرکاربرد در این موضوع، مبانی فیزیکی (تغییر ساختار نواری) انواع اتصالات بررسی می شود. پس از آن، روش های به کار رفته در ساخت و تولید این نوع اتصالات شرح داده می شود. در پایان پس از مروری بر ارتباط ریزساختار و خواص الکتریکی، چند کاربرد از این نوع قطعات ارائه می گردد.
